The Titanic sunk on April 14th, 1912.
The boat got filled with water, and then started sinking straight (vertically) down. All of the weight caused it split in half, causing many deaths, by just falling in the whole of the crack.
There weren't enough life boats, so many people had to try to stay alive, by floating.
It looked like the picture above.
